Nutrient Deficiencies are Widespread in U.S.

As a health-conscious individual, you probably try to live a balanced life as much as possible. However, the stresses of every day life can make it tough to keep up with any new diet, let alone one that emphasizes cell health through nutritional supplements that boost telomere health. But even without these vitamins, you might think that as long as you try your best to eat an average diet, you'll get along just fine.

According to a recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and published in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, even the perceived "balanced diet" of most Americans may leave you woefully deficient in several nutritional categories critical to everything from cell health to the beauty of your skin. If you think you might be one of these millions of Americans who need more nutrition in their diets, you might want to start looking into supplements to make you look and feel your best.

Deficiently consistent

Recent studies have shown how much fat, sugar and other calorie-dense ingredients go into most mass-produced foods, but the University of Illinois study may paint the most accurate current picture of the state of the average American's diet. According to Ruopeng An, professor of kinesiology and community health and lead author of the study, it doesn't look good.

"We found that American people consume much lower amounts of nutrients than are recommended," An said in a statement. "For example, only 11.3 percent of people meet the daily recommended intake of fiber. Only 4.7 percent of adults consume recommended amounts of potassium."

While a few days of coming up short on nutritional requirements won't leave you with any noticeable damage, years of inadequate diets can wear down your body's ability to fight off infection and grow healthy new cells. One of the least noticeable yet most dangerous symptoms of nutritional deficiencies is called anemia, which refers to the chronic physical fatigue and mental exhaustion that people who don't supply their cells with the right nutrients experience. Though gradual at first, you might find yourself having trouble focusing at work or staying awake for more than a few hours at a time.

Upgrade your energy

While you should try to consume the most balanced diet you can manage to cobble together from your trips to the grocery store, many Americans struggle to do just that due to time constraints or lack of in-depth nutritional knowledge. Instead, more people prefer to take a cell health supplement – according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 50 percent of the country uses at least some kind of nutritional supplement regularly.

To make sure your cells are receiving all the nutrients they need, though, it's important to take supplements that are specially targeted to include compounds that help re-energize your body at the cellular level. With healthy building blocks of life, you'll look and feel better than ever before.
