Common Signs of Vitamin Deficiencies You Shouldn’t Ignore

As the old saying goes, "You are what you eat." While this is mostly true in that if you stuff yourself full of processed foods and sugary snacks made of nothing but empty calories, you're probably not going to feel up for running a marathon or even chasing your kids around the yard. Creating a sound foundation of cell health is always going to be the first step on the road to all-around well-being.

However, when you miss out on just one or two essential phytonutrients that your cells need for basic functions, you could feel a big difference when you need your body at its best. In fact, the symptoms of some vitamin deficiencies can be so widespread that you might confuse them for illnesses like the flu or something even worse. Instead, take a look at these common signs that you need to fuel your cells with the proper vitamins before it's too late.

 

Sign No. 1: Your muscles ache and your digestion is a bit irregular

 

When it comes to physical performance, so many different systems of your body work together to help you run that extra mile or shoot that winning basket. Many people think that if they avoid unhealthy foods, that'll be good enough to prepare their bodies for intense activity. The reality, though, is a bit different.

If you're serious about cell health, you need to fuel yourself with potassium before heading to the gym. Though you might only think of bananas when you hear the word, potassium is actually critical to the firing of muscle fibers in your body. As muscle cells transport potassium through their outer membranes, they create an electrical charge that they then use to contract and expand when you need to move.

What happens when you don't have enough potassium? Your muscles will still be able to move, but not without a good deal of soreness afterward. The same goes for digestion, which actually requires a good amount of unconscious muscular activity to move food through your system. Without the right amount of potassium, you could be feeling a little queasy and irregular when you need to be feeling the opposite.

 

Sign No. 2: You can't focus at work and are always tired when you get home

 

A lack of energy should always be a concerning symptom, but you don't always need to run to the doctor when you start to feel a little groggy. However, if you find that you're struggling to focus for hours at a time like your job requires, and then you get home only to collapse on the couch until it's time for bed, it might be time to look at how a vitamin deficiency could be the source of your problems.

In fact, these are the classic signs of a lack of vitamin B12. This phytonutrient makes sure your brain is able to transmit neurosignals to every part of your body, and when there's not enough of it, those electrical impulses slow to a noticeable degree. When you have to reread a document at work several times before you get the point, it could be because your brain doesn't have enough vitamin B12 to make sure what you see is transferred to the parts of the brain governing reading and critical thinking.

If you find yourself experiencing any of these symptoms, you should look into a cell health supplement before they get any worse.
